Simply put, the SONY a9 has the best AF system of any camera that I have ever used. And Patrick Sparkman agrees 100%. SONY is getting hotter every day. The a9 sells for $3,498.00 and the new a9 II sells for $4498.00. Either way, you can do the math as far as how much you will be saving. artie
Artie, is the A7Rlll a camera to consider for birds in flight? Thank you.
Hi Bob, It is more than adequate but pales overall in comparison to the a9 (an hopefully to the 19 II). I made more than a few good fligth shots in the Galapagos with the 7r III (see the blog) but would always go to the a9 in situations that were really challenging for the AF system — fast flying birds and wake jumping dolphins for example.

ps: if flight is your thig do consider my a9; it has not sold as of 12:41 eastern time on Wednesday …
I’ll really be curious what you think of VS.II. For me, my read of the upgraded specs is not sufficient to make the move. Still waiting on the 600.
Like most folks, I was hoping for 35MP or so … But the improved ergonomics are a big plus for me. In addition, my kids are still gonna get a nice check when they put me in the box.

Artie,
One question, why are you selling your A9 ? planning to buy A9II or sticking with A7RIV. Just wondering.
Regards,
Mukesh
My a9 II is coming from Bedford’s today or tomorrow. I like the feel of the slightly wider camera bodies and AF is supposedly improved a bit … It is a lot of money for 24MPs…
